The D2 Boys Club Charter

Forum & club values

This club has been established to provide an independent and open place for discussing, sharing information & activities relating to the Land Rover Discovery 2 & related subjects. The club's independence is maintained by the generous contribution of donations from its members. Individual contributions are not disclosed and do not secure the member any additional rights, they are a gift to the D2 Boys Club for the running of the club & enabling all to share equally in the benefits of a truly independent club.

Rules & regulations

Rules & regulations have been kept simple rather than trying to itemise them. However we do have Disclaimer and Terms of Use to which you agree in order to use the forum.

Members are not permitted to post material that is obscene, this includes avatars & signature pictures & any photos posted on the forum likely to be found highly offensive or likely to land the club in hot water legally. The general test of our policy on content is that if it is 'spam' or if you wouldn't be prepared to let your children see it, we don't want it on this forum, but to an extent it is down to the discretion of the moderators. Our experience suggests that our members understand the general principle of this and few if any ever step over the line. Also there is a word censor built in to the site to filter out any bad language, this is monitored & updated on a regular basis.

As this is a Discovery 2 club, members are expected to keep the majority of their posts in the forum about the Discovery 2 or subjects closely associated with it, their use, repair, modification & so on. Off topic posts are acceptable, but only in the open forum where anything & everything can be discussed as long as it's not obscene, abusive or argumentative.

Members are requested & expected to use the PM (private message) facility to conduct personal conversations or chats, which by their nature are usually of little interest to others.

Multiple usernames used by individuals are not allowed, so too are people who register as new members simply in order to post advertising material whether 'spam' or links to websites or a genuine classified advert, without contributing in any other way to the content of the club. The club has a 25 post rule, this means that no member can post an advert on the forum of any kind until they have achieved at least 25 posts on the forum.

Rules for traders

The club welcomes traders either individuals or companies, but not on the main forum. We have our own dedicated traders section where for an annual fee (contact admin for details) you can have your own area in the traders section where you are able to showcase your items for sale, you will be able to place photographs & descriptions of the items similar to the set up on ebay, but only fixed price or POA's or offers are allowed no auctions. Links for your contact details for parts enquiries are allowed.
Also when an item is sold members are encouraged to leave comments on the transaction whether good or bad, this is to ensure that traders will consistently offer a first class service to our members.
This section is to stop traders registering on the club forum to sell their stock via the items for sale section which is for members to sell items which they no longer have a use for.
Traders are discouraged from purchasing items from the items for sale section until members of the forum have had chance to view & purchase them first, this is to stop traders from buying something & listing it at a dearer price later.
The section is monitored by the moderators just the same as any other part of the forum so anything listed deemed unsuitable will be removed

Other items

This is a plain English forum! This means that submissions should be clearly composed in English and have some regard to proper spelling and grammar.
But as we are a truly international club, we will make allowances for those outside the UK where English is not the primary language

Please remember that any advice given on the forum by club members must be regarded as potentially incorrect. It is the responsibility of any person carrying out work on their vehicle to make a judgement as to the validity of the advice and to ensure that the methods and practices involved are safe and legal. Individuals will not be held responsible for damage to vehicles, persons or property following advice received via the D2 boys club forum.

Appointment of moderators

The club is overseen by a team of administrators and moderators. If a need is identified for a new moderator, somebody in the existing admin & moderating team will usually suggest a member for consideration. When a suggestion is put forward the member concerned will be approached to see if they are interested and willing to undertake the task. If so the existing admin & moderating team will then discuss this taking into account such things as:
The number and quality of posts the member has made.
Whether they have knowledge relevant to the forum.
Whether they are likely to apply common sense and mature approach in deciding what is and is not acceptable.
If the general feeling amongst the moderating team is that the candidate is suitable then the appointment will be made.

Moderating actions & policy

Generally anything blatantly inappropriate (e.g. commercial 'spam', pornography, gratuitous swearing, obviously libellous comments or personal attacks & insults) will be removed immediately without warning. Once removed the offending thread or post is stored in a Forum to which only admin & moderators have access, so it can be referred to or restored to it original place if required. If a persistent offender is identified then discussion will occur in the admin & moderator's forum as to whether the member should be warned, banned or other action taken, each case is considered on its merits. Usually if somebody is pushing the boundaries then it is expected that a PM asking them to behave is all that is required.

Please remember the admin & moderators undertake their roles purely on a voluntary basis & are not financially rewarded for their efforts. Although we try hard the very nature of moderating means it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time! Please treat the admin and moderating team with the same kind of respect and courtesy that you would wish to receive yourself.

Above all enjoy your time with the D2 boys club,

Thanks for reading
