Right guys it's time to make this official.

Firstly a bit about us. I work for Annetts & Orchard Insurance Brokers. We are Insurance Brokers and Financial Advisers. The business was set up by my Dad and his partner 30 years ago this November, so we have a fair bit of experience in our industry. We are a small company with 9 staff over two offices, both based in Wiltshire. We pride ourselves in being a small, friendly, family orientated business that gives straight up no nonsense advise to our clients.

I'll put the boring official bits in a separate post below.

So I've been working over the last few months on getting access to a decent 4x4 insurance scheme initially for myself, but also so I could offer to you guys. Every insurance broker in the country has to get 'access' to schemes, contrary to popular belief we can't just quote any insurer. After a lot of searching I finally found one. The insurance company is Highway, otherwise known as LV. Normally they require evidence that I can supply them with X amount of business as it's fairly exclusive, but after submitting my pitch to them last week they granted me access.

Some key points about the scheme

- Maximum value is £21,000 for 4x4 off road vehicles.

- Maximum value on TPFT is £5000.

- TPO is not offered.

- Maximum age of driver is 74.

- Driving other cars is excluded.

- Maximum number of seats 8.

- Maximum of 4 drivers (including Policyholder).

- NCB is acceptable and will be accrued, but no discount will be given. Protection is not available and in the event of a claim NCB will be stepped back.

- This is designed for the enthusiast who owns a cherished, collectable or hobby vehicle.

- To be classed as a hobby vehicle and not just a chelsea tracktor, each vehicle must have at least one major modification.

- It is designed for second vehicles, so if you do a lot of miles, or need business use it may not be for you. Including commutting doesn't seem to be a problem though. I have commuting on my policy and so does our first forum member on the scheme, 'chrismarlo'.

Now onto the good news. The premiums are VERY competitive. Forum member chrismarlo was my guinea pig and the first person to get a quote. Chris has a few mods, is 27 years old and has 2 years NCB. Admiral wanted £1,600 and flux wanted £795. The quote on this scheme?

4000 miles a year is £350.10

5000 miles a year is £374.13

6000 miles a year is £537.72

Fully comprehensive with a £50 excess.

Seems too good to be true doesn't it. So like Chris quite rightly questioned . . why so cheap?

The main reason it was so cheap for Chris compared to the others is that the scheme doesn't take any notice of no claims bonus. So whether you have 2 years or 20 years the premium is the same. The NCB does still build up in the background though, so if he went else where next year he would still get proof of bonus stating 3 years. (assuming he had no accidents of course)

One important thing to note that is that you cannot protect your bonus, so if you make a claim the bonus will still step backwards like any other policy without protection.

The scheme is designed and targeted at genuine enthusiasts and club members (D2BC!) , hence why you need at least one major modification to get in. Genuine enthusiasts maintain their cars better and are involved in less accidents.

The policy is also limited mileage. If you exceed your stated annual mileage, the cover reduced to third party fire and theft, not comprehensive.

Another note to note is that the cancellation refunds aren't great. See page 13 of the policy booklet attached below.

I can't think of much else to explain right now but please fire any questions at me and I'll maybe make a FAQ section or something. More details below.

* Please note that there is a bit of delay in getting this scheme up and running between us and the insurer. We basically missed the cut off for our software provider to activate the policy on our quote system for June, so it won't go live until July. However, I am able to quote the exact same scheme, but via a sub broker until then. My own insurance was arranged through this sub broker and so will Chris's be. What's the difference? well everyone takes their cut as usual. The sub-broker charges admin fees on new business, policy amendments and cancellations. I still believe it is worth it for those needing to renew before July.

Do you really want a challenge then ?
I'm with flux, use it every day,it's modded with a Dynachip stage one map,18 k miles/ year, take a trip to Portugal each year, with breakdown cover, & it's a 12 yr old motor.
No- claims protected, with legal protection + windscreen, all for the princely sum of £421.
Can you beat it ?
If you can, it'll be this time next year, just to give you time to sort it.
